Freshmen Fun Day
School: Del City High School

Advisor: Kristy Cooper

Advisor Email: kcooper@mid-del.net

Type of Project: Improve Student Attitudes

Description: Freshmen Fun Day is DCHS welcome freshmen day. During the day student leaders welcome the freshmen to the campus. They do Kiss your Mommy Goodbye greeting during registration. This is one of our favorite parts of the day. We start with welcomes and then separate into small groups. In small groups, freshmen write a letter to their senior self, learn DC expectations and clubs, learn chants (and create a new one), tour the school, and commit to graduate. Before lunch, the freshmen will perform their chants and one group will win free DC shirts. Then it is lunch and goodbye. The whole day lasts 4 hours. We usually have 40-60 student leaders volunteer.

Amazon Wishlist Food Drive
School: Jenks Freshmen Academy

Advisor: Katy Sanderlin

Advisor Email: katy.sanderlin@jenksps.org

Type of Project: Community Service

Description: We used an Amazon wishlist as part of our annual Food Drive, and it greatly increased the amount of donations that we received. We gave each advisory ("homeroom") class a classic bag to collect their food donations, and we stapled a QR code to that bag with a link to our student council's food drive wishlist. We also made sure to include the link to the wishlist in the school announcements, our social media, and emails home to parents. We had the items shipped directly to the school, and it was the student council's responsibility to open and organize the packages. It was very convenient for both students and adults to contribute to the food drive without having to worry about going to the store or remembering to bring their items to school. (Note: some items took longer to be delivered than others.)

Door Decorating Contest
School: Jenks Freshmen Academy

Advisor: Katy Sanderlin

Advisor Email: katy.sanderlin@jenksps.org

Type of Project: Improve Student Attitudes

Description: We had a door decorating contest among all of the advisory ("homeroom") classes in our school. We chose to decorate our doors in honor of a rival football game, but you could choose any holiday/occasion. It was a fun and easy way to spread school spirit and get the entire student body involved. The student council officers made a rubric to judge the doors and partnered with students from our special education department to walk around and rate the doors. It's also an easy opportunity to include adults such as your principals or school board and have them be judges. The winning advisory class was gifted free pizza courtesy of our principal, but it could easily become an opportunity to win a spirit stick or something of the like. It was also really nice to have our whole school decorated for the fall season. Note: my student council advisory did decorate our doors, but theirs was of course not included in the actual competition.

Advisor Email: srboswell@waltersps.org

Type of Project: Social or Recreational Project; Improve Students Attitudes

Description: Freshmen game night was an event held by WHS Student Council a few days before school started. We chose to do a game night with the incoming freshmen to help them get to know some familiar faces, they will be able to come to when school started, in a more relaxed setting. We provided some typical game night snacks such as cookies, brownies, and candy, and started off the night by playing both small and large group ice breakers games. We ended the night by explaining how the high school class schedule works, speaking about various student organizations, and answering any other questions they had about entering high school.

Kiss a Senior Goodbye!
School: Walters High School

Advisor: Shelbey Boswell

Advisor Email: srboswell@waltersps.org

Type of Project: Social or Recreational Project; Improve Students Attitudes

Description: Kiss a senior goodbye was a fundraising opportunity that allowed us to reach out to the entire community to show our graduating seniors how much they would be missed as they moved on into the next chapter of their lives. We created a simple form (provided below) for people to fill out with the name of the senior their order was for, and provided a section for them to write a message to go with the bag of Hershey's Kisses. A flyer (provided below) was also created for the fundraising event, and it was shared on social media and posted throughout the campus to spread the word. Student council members were responsible for keeping track of the number of orders we received, organizing the materials needed for creating the product, as well as packaging and delivering the orders to the seniors at the end of the year.

Kindness Week
School: Stigler High School

Advisor: Lori Boren

Advisor Email: lboren@stiglerps.com

Type of Project: Improve Students Attitudes

Description:
Most schools participate in some type of kindness week or something similar, but for us (a small, rural school), kindness week is a hit! Each year we've grown with our ideas and we'd like to share them with everyone, but especially those small schools looking for ways to engage their student body. We always host our kindness week in February because that tends to be a "dead" period for our school. We begin on Monday and we end on Friday. On Friday, we host a kindness week assembly where we bring in a guest speaker to discuss the importance of kindness to the entire student body. During this assembly, we always treat it like a typical pep assembly and have fun and games. During the week, we line up at the entrance doors with music playing and we greet the students as they enter. This also gives us (student council) the opportunity to direct them to our kindness week table and talk to them about the theme for the day. At the table, the students are asked to do something representative of the day such as, make a card, sign the wall, make a spirit chain, etc.
We always love kindness week and even though we're a small school, we hope this encourages everyone to host a kindness week if you don't already!

Advisor Email: tskiles@empireschools.org

Type of Project: Social or Recreational Project

Description: Last year in May we planned, organized and ran a field day for students 6-12. We started at 9:00 am and each team had thirty minutes at a station like kickball, soccer, water games, and volleyball. We started with 9-12 graders. We had them divided by colors already. Each stu co member stayed with their color all day long. 6-8 graders watched a movie inside with teachers until after lunch. Then the groups switched. We had 6-8 outside and 9-12 was inside. This was the absolute best day we had in a long time. The students got to relax after testing and have just a fun day without work. The stu co members worked hard and learned how to lead students.

The STUCO members divide our school students ( roughly 225) into group each led by a Student Council Members. Throughout the day each of the group will rotate through a variety of workshops and large group activities. We have had a lot of different workshops in the past including personality test, Make an Invention ( using recyclable material), Write a letter to your future self, Volleyball Tournament, Ice Breakers, Minute to Win it Games, etc. The group members are in charge and they are the facilitators of each of the activities! We try to get together in the beginning and the end of the day! We have done a Dodgeball Tournament in May for the BIgger Event- which is just about FUN!
This is an event that is looked forward to each year by the Council.

Christmas Gift Card Drive
School: Latta Public Schools

Advisor: Jessica Tilley

Advisor Email: jtilley@latta.k12.ok.us

Type of Project: Community Service, School Service Project

Description: During COVID year, our PTO was not able to do their annual Angel Tree. STUCO decided that there was still a need to provide some assistance at Christmas Time. We decided instead of each group buying gifts for one child on the Angel Tree we would host this Gift Card Drive. We asked our community and different classes to buy Gift Cards from various eating restaurants, Walmart, Grocery Stores, or to even make a cash donation. We divided these Gift Cards into 25 different families with a variety of gift cards. It was much easier to get a Gift card then it was to shop for a specific Angel Tree child. We organized the list from our Free and Reduced lunch list. The recipients were all kept confidential and I was the keeper of the cash and Gift Cards. Our Business Secretary did have each family sign out what types of gift cards they received. It was very well received by our community, recipient and school!

Type of Project: Improve Student Attitudes, Social or Recreational Project

Description: Every December, our Student Council hosts the entire student body for a holiday-themed event. In some years we have written short plays based on favorite holiday films and stories such as Elf, A Charlie Brown Christmas, or How the Grinch Stole Christmas. These are pretty involved and time-comsuming, but they make for a wonderful experience for the student council and student body alike. This does involve writing a script to fit the time allotted, costuming, set-building and practice time. Sometimes, the demands of the school day and meeting time does not allow for such an involved process. This year we opted for a series of Christmas games and sing alongs, including build a snowman, a Christmas would you rather, and snowball/dodgeball. The students seemed to really enjoy it, and all students were able to participate in the "Christmas Would You Rather." This activity took a fraction of the time to prep and produce, but still left students feeling that they participated in a fun and joyful holiday event.

YES for the holidays for The Youth Emergency Shelter
School: McAlester High School

Advisor: Destiny Collier

Advisor Email: dcollier@mcalester.k12.ok.us

Type of Project: Community Service

Description: For one of our community service projects this year, we voted to sponsor our local Youth Emergency Shelter at Christmastime. Our council collected cold-weather gear, health and beauty products and games to gift to the young prople living at our Youth Emergency Shelter. Christmas is a difficult time to be away from family and friends, so we wanted to make their season a little brighter with gifts donated by our council. We also partnered with a local church to multiply our donation. We contacted the sponsors at the shelter to learn of specific needs and wished-for items. Parents helped our students deliver the gift items which were greatly appreciated by the residents of the shelter. Students were in charge of contacting officials, learning sizes and genders, and delivering those items. We spent about $200 out of our budget to add to the donations that were provided.

We have asked every member of our school their favorite drink, snack and candy. We make sure each employee is noticed throughout the year. They receive a card, drink, snack and candy. A member of our council passes the treats to each teacher, this has helped with the over teacher moral in our school.

Type of Project: School Service Project, Social or Recreational Project

Description: This event is exclusively for our K-6th grade students and is held the Thursday before Halloween. High School and Middle School clubs are coordinated by Student Council to have booths with small carnival-like games and candy for our community members to bring their children to from 5:30-7:00pm. Last year we had 20 groups (including Boosters and local businesses!) facilitate booths with over 200 children and families served! We set these booths (6ft tables) in the Elementary Gym and Cafeteria so that students and families are familiar with the area. We act as door openers and guides to make sure families don't miss a thing. We also provide extra candy in case clubs need assistance.

Flamingo Flocking
School: Chelsea High School

Advisor: Pam Phillips

Advisor Email: pphillips@chelseadragons.net

Type of Project: Fundraising Project

Description: Flaming Flocking began in 2021. The flaming flocking is a fundraising project to fund scholarships for any student 12th through 9th grade who shows outstanding leadership qualities throughout the school year. Our initial investment was around $250 for the flamingos and signs. We start each year by doing a surprise flocking. The flockee then pays us $25.00 to remove the flock and relocate to a yard or business of their choosing. It is all great fun for our community. You just never know where the flock will end up. We have given out over 10 scholarships to date.
Our main goal in doing this was not to earn money for ourselves but to reward students that our doing such a great job within their class or organization. Our Stuco group goes out in teams of 2 to 3 people once we have a work order to remove the flock. Our town has a page on social media and it is fun to see people posting pictures of our flocking in the different locations.
We took a risk on this project and it has turned into one of our favorite things we do all year long. It builds a link to our community and our school.

Chelsea Leadership Conference
School: Chelsea High School

Advisor: Pam Phillips

Advisor Email: pphillips@chelseadragons.net

Type of Project: Leadership Training

Description: Chelsea Leadership Conference was held on July 26, 2022. We invited students nominated by advisors, coaches, and principals to attend. These students were chosen based on the leadership potential seen by the faculty. We had over 80 students and 25 staff on hand. We received funding through the Cherokee Nation to hosts this event. Each student/staff received a certificate of completion, a t-shirt, and gift bags. We provided 3 meals. The day included team building, boundary breaker games, poster making 101, spirit groups and reflection.
We had two wonderful guest speakers. The Army National guard brought an obstacle course. Students than had a chance to work with advisors on events for the coming school year.
Not only did this boost morale for our staff but it also helped the students grow in confidence in their abilities to lead within the each organization within our school. It broke down barriers between classes and organizations. We started the school year stronger than ever. Students planned and implemented a back to school event for both the high school and middle school students.

Pinkapalooza Carnival
School: Carl Albert High School

Advisor: Grace Dozier

Advisor Email: gdozier@mid-del.net

Type of Project: Fundraiser Project

Description: Pinkapalooza is a Halloween carnival at CAHS to generate money towards Breast Cancer Awareness. Pinkapalooza is a welcoming event into Carl Albert's Pink Week where we come together as a school and community to raise awareness and money for those battling/recovering from breast cancer. STUCO hosts this event in our field house for $5 per person and is welcome to anyone in the community. The upper level is filled with games and trick or treating; the clubs and organizations at CA dress up in Halloween costumes and pass out candy/toys to the community. The upper level also has the classic carnival games with a Halloween flare like corn hole, poke a pumpkin, and pin the Mr. Bones all ran by STUCO members. Lastly we sell snacks and drinks to generate more money for our cause and all products sold are donated by STUCO members. Then we decorate the lower level as a haunted hallway and have student council members dress up as our haunted characters. We have members at the entrance allowing small groups at a time to pass through the halls. These members also have a code word for groups with smaller children to warn our actors to be cautious with their actions. The haunted hallway is our biggest hit at the event because we cater to all ages. The event is open for 3 hours to the public but STUCO comes about 2 hours before to set up totaling 5 hours. We have about 20-30 volunteers that help make this event possible.

Orientation Camp

Advisor: Patricia Lee

Advisor Email: Plee@dickson.k12.ok.us

Type of Project: Social or Recreational Project

Description: Our Council holds a Freshman Orientation Camp the second day of school. All freshman attend, and our student council members who are in concurrent classes, which don't start for another week, work the camp. The camp has several goals. One is to help the freshman become more familiar with the expectations for high school students. Others are to make them aware of how to stay eligible, and to help them get to know some of the upper classmen.
The camp is similar to attending a District Convention. We start in our cafeteria, and out principal welcomes them. Then, we introduce the freshman teachers. The freshman students are separated into groups according to the colors of their name tags. Two StuCo members are their team leaders. The freshman rotate to six different breakouts. Two use Smart TV's for slide shows over dress code, phone policy, etc; and Top Ten Tips for Success; the others are in our gym and include questions with their teachers, learning our spirit traditions, and doing team building and communications skills with some games on the gym floor. We then take a break for popsicles, some icebreakers, and they take turns checking out chromebooks. Finally, we go back to the cafeteria for a "Tree Goal" activity, and a letter to themselves that they will receive back the last week of school.

Tuttle High School Homecoming Pep Assembly
School: Tuttle High School

Advisor: Landry Underwood

Advisor Email: lunderwood@tuttleschools.org

Type of Project: Social or Recreational Project

Description: For our football homecoming pep rally, our final dress up theme was based on the movie "Rocky" and our student section theme was "Fight Night". This year, our homecoming was "Rolling Out the Red Carpet" where we got inspiration from different movies. We invited our 8th grade over and gave them poms, to add even more school spirit. We had our homecoming escorts participate in a Dr. Suess rap battle, and topped it off with blindfolded musical chairs with 20 contestants. We put them all in a big group on the gym floor and make them search for chairs. You were able to walk or crawl, but could not sit down until the music stopped. We allowed senior football players, and people in our council to move them around and bang on chairs that were previously pulled from other rounds to throw people off. We finished the pep rally with a hype talk from our head football coach and our victory chant for the spirit stick competition, which we even allowed the 8th graders to compete in. Overall, our homecoming pep rally is something that our middle school and high school looks forward to because it gives our high schoolers an opportunity to show the future of Tuttle High School how to be involved and engaged in pep assemblies.
